Emergency Tyre Replacement in Bicester: When a Tyre Can't Be Saved

A blowout, a torn sidewall or a tyre driven flat usually means the tyre cannot be saved. This is how an urgent replacement at the roadside or at home is handled.

30-minute arrival target. We aim to reach customers within 30 minutes, subject to traffic, customer location, technician availability and tyre availability.

24/7 ASSISTANCE

This is a typical example of the work we handle, based on how this kind of job is normally carried out. It is not a record of an individual customer’s visit.

An emergency tyre call in and around Bicester can start in several ways: a sudden bang or a steering pull on the A41, a tyre that has gone flat overnight on a driveway in Kingsmere, or a warning light on the way to the M40 at Junction 9. When the tyre is too badly damaged to repair, the job becomes a same-visit replacement.

The situation

An emergency replacement usually follows damage that rules out a repair. Typical causes include:

  • a blowout or rapid deflation while driving
  • a cut, bulge or tear in the sidewall, often after striking a kerb or pothole
  • a tyre that was driven on while flat, which can damage it from the inside
  • tread worn below the legal minimum, discovered after a puncture

The first call

The most useful thing you can give us is the vehicle’s exact position. On the A41 or near Bicester Village, that means the road, direction of travel and a nearby landmark. At home or work, it means the address and where the car is parked. We then ask for the registration and, if you can read it, the tyre size from the sidewall. That lets us check the correct tyre and its availability before we set off. We aim to reach you within 30 minutes, subject to traffic, technician and tyre availability.

What we check on arrival

Before anything is fitted, the damaged tyre and wheel are inspected. We confirm that replacement really is needed, that the replacement tyre matches the size, load and speed rating the vehicle requires, and that the wheel itself is not damaged. If the vehicle has locking wheel nuts, the key is needed at this point; if it is missing, we can deal with that too.

How the replacement is carried out

The wheel is removed, the old tyre is taken off the rim using the mobile fitting equipment, and the new tyre is fitted and inflated to the vehicle’s specified pressure. The wheel is then balanced with digital balancing equipment and refitted, with the wheel nuts tightened correctly. Run-flat, EV and 4x4/SUV tyres are handled the same way, with the specification confirmed first.

Staying safe while you wait

If you are at the roadside, move away from the traffic and wait somewhere safe, behind a barrier if there is one. On a motorway, follow the Highway Code and call the emergency services if the vehicle is in a live lane. Tell us about the position when you call, because tyre work cannot safely take place at every stopping point.

Using the spare to get somewhere safer

If you have fitted a space-saver spare to move off a busy road, check the speed limit marked on it and keep journeys short. Let us know where you have moved to, and we can fit the full-size replacement there.

Before you get in touch

Common questions.

Still unsure? Call us and describe the problem.

How do I know it cannot be repaired?

Sidewall damage, blowouts and tyres driven flat are rarely repairable, but we confirm this on inspection. If a repair is possible, we will tell you.

How much will an emergency replacement cost?

It depends on the tyre size, the brand or tier you choose and what is available. We give you the price before fitting, and card payments are accepted.
